Virus Help

First, Don't Panic!

Just follow the steps provided below and you should be able to clean the machine of the virus.

Check for Anti-Virus Protection

Do you have Trend-Micro Anti-Virus installed on your machine? If so, you should see a blue globe on the bottom right corner of your task bar.

If you do not have Trend, you can install it by going to:

Refer to the Solution Guide for install help.

Update Trend-Micro Virus Definitions

To manually update your virus definitions, look for the Trend-Micro icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the computer screen. It should look like the icon to the right. Right-click on it and select Update Now. Select Update Now on the update screend. Trend will download the latest virus definitions. Click Exit when finished.  Trend-Micro taskbar icon

Scan your Computer for a Virus in Safe Mode

At this point you should reboot your system into safe mode. This is recommended because if you have a virus that is scanning for other vulnerable systems while booted into Windows normally, you will get blocked from accessing the network.

  1. Restart system and hit F8 before Windows starts to boot.
  2. Choose Safe Mode.
  3. Right click on the Trend-Micro blue globe in the task tray and choose OfficeScan console..
  4. Click on All Fixed Drives.
  5. Click on Scan.
  6. If a virus is detected, let it do the default action requested.

Reboot the System

After scanning is complete and McAfee has identified and removed viruses, reboot your system. If you experience the same or other odd behavior, run the Trend-Micro scan again to verify the system is still clean.
