What is Windows® Movie Maker?


Windows® Movie Maker is software that allows you to capture photos or video footage from your digital video camera into your computer.  Then edit and produce a finished video with effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, narration, etc. that can be burned to CD-ROM/DVD-ROM or posted on YouTube.   Note: the current version of Windows Movie Maker was previously called Windows Live Movie Maker.Movie Maker

Is there a cost associated with Windows® Movie Maker?

Windows® Movie Maker comes pre-installed on most computers that are running a Windows® operating system.  It can also be downloaded free of charge from the Windows® Movie Maker website.  The only costs that might be associated with using Windows® Movie Maker might include:

  • A microphone
  • A webcam or digital video camera
  • A video capture device
  • The cables to connect your video camera to your computer(ex/firewire)
