Windows® is the operating system that was created by Microsoft in the 1980's. This is the operating system that comes pre-installed on most most PCs and laptops today. Windows® is an operating system with a graphical user interface that makes navigating the files and applications on your computer easy. First sold as an add-on product to MS-DOS, it has evolved and become more user friendly with each release: Windows® 3.1, Windows® 95, Windows® 98, Windows® ME, Windows® 2000, Windows® XP, Windows Vista®, Windows 7®, and Windows 8®. The version most widely used at Clemson is currently Windows® 7.
Clemson Faculty and Students can purchase a copy of the current version of Windows® at the Clemson Computer Store in the old Union building. Once a student graduates they are no longer eligible to purchase these DVD's. This software can be installed on the students computers while they are attending Clemson and can be re-installed once they graduate as long as they have purchased the DVD. If a student transfers or drops-out, they should follow proper procedures and guidelines and remove any Clemson licensed Windows® and/or Microsoft Office products from their computer. More information regarding this can be found on the CCIT Software website.
