OISP Celebrates National Cyber Security Awareness Month with "Shred Day 2009"
In celebration of Cyber Security Awareness Month, Clemson's Office of Information Security and Privacy (OISP) is partnering with Shred360.com to sponsor the first "Shred Day" on Oct 16th, 2009. Shred360 will have its mobile shredding unit on campus to handle most any portable data destruction need you can imagine.
During this event all Clemson University employees and students are encouraged to gather their personal records that might contain sensitive or personal information about themselves to be permanently destroyed. University equipment and records may be subject to retention requirements or other disposal requirements, so please check within your departments before brining university records or equipment to be shredded. No hazardous materials will be accepted, so remove those batteries from your old laptops if you choose bring one of those...and yes they can shred a laptop (minus the battery!)
Event Details:
Date and Time: - Oct 16th, 2009 9am till 1pm
Location: - Johnstone Meadows (the grass area that was formerly Johnstone E and F, just below Harcomb dining hall across from the Steam Plant on Klugh Ave.), parking is available around the venue if you need to drive over to bring your materials.
Suggested items to bring:
- Floppy Disks
- Hard Drives
- Paper Based products such as bank or credit card statements
- CD/DVD's
- Tapes
- Bring it - you can always ask if it is ok, most items can be handled provided their not hazardous
Why do this?
- Protect and Secure your personal information from getting into the wrong persons hands.
- Permanently destroys the storage device rendering it useless
- Shredded materials are recycled
- Just plain fun to watch!
