Linux Dual Boot
Students who are interested in installing a Linux dual boot on their laptops are invited to visit the Clemson Linux Users Group (CLUG) web page. For instructions on how to install a Linux Dual Boot on your computer, click here.
For students who have one of the recommended Clemson Windows laptops with the software image installed on it, it is possible to set up a Linux dual boot that shares the data partition so you can see the same data files in both operating systems. In addition to instructions for completing this, there will be an image available which can be put on the laptop very quickly. Using the image will be replace everything previously on the laptop.
CCIT does not offer any formal support for Linux or Linux dual boot computers. Students who need support for this are invited to go to CLUG.
During the laptop workshops in August, CLUG will offer a dual boot image workshop. Any student wanting this put on their computer can email ithelp@clemson.edu and to enroll you in this workshop. Remember to back up any data before attending since this will replace everything on your laptop. After the installation, a few basic instructions will be given on updating Linux and on configuring Windows. This will replace the regular laptop workshop for those students.
If you expect to major in Computer Engineering, that department does want its students to have access to Linux. It is easier to install before beginning the freshman year even though it will not be used in the first semester of the freshman year. Some Computer Science and Electrical Engineering students may also find it advantageous.
