Clemson University invites applications and nominations for the Chair of the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering. The Department offers BS, MS and PhD degrees and has about 475 undergraduate students (not including freshman) and 120 graduate students. The Department currently has 26 full time faculty positions (two more to be added in 2013) in six areas, Applied Fluid Mechanics, Construction Engineering and Management, Construction Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Systems. In addition to these traditional areas, the Department has adopted a broad focus on Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure and has developed nationally funded programs in this field. Over the past five years, the Department has experienced a rapid increase in its research expenditures, journal publications, and PhD graduates. We are seeking a dynamic individual who is a nationally recognized and respected scholar in his/her field with a vision and leadership/management skills and qualities to take the Department to the next level. A successful candidate should have an earned doctoral degree in civil engineering or related fields, and qualifications for appointment as a full professor with tenure. We expect the new department chair to start in July 2013. Please direct any questions regarding the position to Professor Hsein Juang (hsein@clemson.edu), Chair of the Search Committee.
To apply, please email a single PDF document that includes a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a statement of vision for the Department, and a list of six references with contact information (email address, mailing address and phone number) to Karen Lanning (rkaren@clemson.edu). The search process will start immediately and continue until the position is filled; however, to receive full consideration, applicants should submit their information by January 15, 2013.
