Faculty Positions

The Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University invites applications to fill two new tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level starting in August 2013. Successful candidates will help reduce teaching loads in a growing department and further strengthen the Department’s expertise in the national priority area of Resilient and Sustainable Infrastructure Systems. One position is in Hydrology, and the other is in Geotechnical Engineering.

  • In the Hydrology area, we seek candidates who have teaching and research interests in theoretical and computational hydrological modeling, surface hydrologic processes, and water resources systems analysis. The candidate should be able to incorporate available satellite and remote sensing data in her/his research and have experience in issues related to climate change at local and global scales.
  • For the Geotechnical Engineering position, we seek candidates who have teaching and research interests in one or more of the following areas—sustainability and resilience for geotechnical systems; geothermal properties and systems; high performance computing in geomechanics; and rock and fracture mechanics.

Candidates for both positions must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, collaborate across disciplines, and develop externally funded research programs that support Ph.D. students. A willingness and ability to teach mechanics-related courses is required for both positions. Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and, by the time of appointment, a doctorate in civil engineering or a closely related field. Professional Engineer (PE) registration or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable time is required.

Clemson University is the land-grant university in South Carolina. One of the largest departments at Clemson, the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering has about 475 undergraduate students (not including freshman), 120 graduate students, and 26 full-time faculty positions. More information about the Department can be found at www.clemson.edu/ce.

Please include the following materials in your application: cover letter; curriculum vitae; statements of teaching and research interests; and the names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of at least three references. Please e-mail these materials as a single PDF document to Ms. Karen Lanning at rkaren@clemson.edu. Review of applications will begin December 10, 2012 and continue until the positions are filled.
