Welcome to the Civil Engineering Department at Clemson University. Our mission is to provide the best educational experience and work environment consistent with Clemson's tradition of educational excellence. The department is recognized nationally for its educational and research programs, and our graduates are highly sought after by employers throughout the nation. Over the past few years, the department has seen significant growth in the number of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff, as well as in the teaching and research infrastructure. This growth is accompanied with a high level of productivity in the number of graduates and in faculty research and scholarly publication activities.

Interaction between students and faculty is emphasized inside and outside the classroom. Our students are very active in professional organizations and hold several regional, national and international championships. In addition, many opportunities exist for undergraduates to participate in on-going research and creative inquiry with faculty and graduate students. These activities keep students at the cutting edge of the profession and are viewed by students as very rewarding.

The research conducted in the department addresses a wide range of topics and is an integral component of our educational program. The department is home to state-of-the-art research facilities. Research labs are located in Lowry Hall, the civil engineering building, and within a 5-minute driving distance from Lowry Hall.

Clemson is rather unique in that we are one of few universities in the nation in which Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering are two separate departments. The CE department is considered one of the 20 largest departments in the nation. We have about 350 sophomore, junior and senior students, and 100 graduate students. We award about 100 BSCE, 40 MSCE and 7 PhD degrees per year. The department has 22 faculty members, several visiting, research and emeritus faculty. In 2007, the undergraduate program was ranked 14th in the nation among public universities.
