Applying for Admission to the Civil Engineering Graduate Program

All of the information and application materials you will need are available on the Web www.grad.clemson.edu. You will be able to find the electronic application form as well as financial aid forms, transcript request forms and recommendation forms. The electronic application process is much faster than using a paper application. Please note that the application fee must be mailed to the University's Graduate School. Applications filed electronically will be discarded after 60 days if the application fee is not received.

The Graduate School processes all applications and will only send an application to the Civil Engineering Department for review after all materials and the fee have been received. To make sure your application package is complete, see the checklist below.

GRE and TOEFL

Applicants to the Master of Science and Ph.D. program must take the GRE General test. International applicants must also take the TOEFL.

Write a Statement of Purpose

The Civil Engineering Department requires that a statement of purpose essay be included with the application materials. Since the decision to admit you is based on many factors, we would like to get to know you as well as possible. Accordingly, we ask that you write an essay to tell us something about yourself and the experiences which have helped to shape you, as well as your life's goals and professional aspirations. Include an indication of your preferred area of specialization in the civil engineering field (Applied Fluid Mechanics, Construction Materials, Construction Engineering and Management, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Transportation) and state why.

Deadlines

For full consideration for financial assistance, applications for the Spring semester are due by October 1st, and applications for the Fall semester are due by February 1st. Applications received after these dates will be considered for financial assistance if funds are available. For acceptance to graduate school only (without full consideration for financial assistance), international student applications for the Spring semester are due by November 1st and by July 1st for the Fall semester; US citizens should apply at least four weeks prior to registration.
