Researcher uses award to create WebMD of academic advising

One of Clemson University’s newest faculty members is working to develop an online dashboard that could become the WebMD of academic advising, helping students make the crucial decisions that can mean the difference between dropping out and graduating. Marisa Orr envisions an academic dashboard that would help students review decision-making strategies, track study habits and hear testimonials from peers who successfully navigated their way through challenges. A paper from Dr. Richard Figliola’s research group was featured on the cover of ASAIO Journal

The cover page of the May/June 2016 issue of ASAIO Journal features a paper from Dr. Richard Figliola’s research group titled “In-vitro Validation of a Multiscale Patient-specific Model of the Norwood Circulation”. Department mourns the passing of professor Mica Grujicic

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Mica Grujicic, the Wilfred P. and Helen S. Tiencken Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Grujicic was a member of Clemson University’s faculty for 28 years, joining in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Wen-qi, and daughter, Angela, who both live in the Clemson area. MORE>>

Dr. Richard Figliola to serve as the acting department chair

Dr. Melur Ramasubramanian has accepted a one-year IPA (Intergovernmental Personnel Act) to serve as the next Program Director for the ERC (Engineering Research Centers) program at the National Science Foundation starting July 5th, 2016. During his absence, Dr. Richard Figliola, a University Centennial Professor, Alumni Distinguished Professor, David A. Brown Endowed Scholar, and a former chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department, will serve as the acting department chair.  MORE>>

Ginn family's $1M gift will support four endowments, including one in mechanical engineering

A family with three generations of Clemson University alumni has given $1 million to the school to benefit engineering, arts and humanities, and the library, all integral parts of their collegiate experience. Capt. Wilbur N. Ginn Jr., U.S. Navy, retired; and his wife, Dorothy, of Greenville along with their son, Wilbur N. Ginn III, and his wife, Alice, of Florence made the gift for the Wilbur N. Ginn Family Endowment, established to honor the legacy of their father and grandfather, Wilbur N. Ginn Sr. MORE>>

ME opens new Design Innovation Studio

The Design Innovation Studio is a new resource for Capstone Design and Student Design projects in the Department of Mechanical Engineering located in 111 Fluor Daniel EIB. The studio consists of 2000 square feet of dedicated project space that can accommodate prototype fabrication, experimentation and testing, and a group meeting location for student groups to generate solutions to problems and present and share.
