Faculty Position

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant and Associate Professor ranks, to begin January 2018. Candidates in the area of Computational Material Science are being sought. The Department and College are committed to fostering interdisciplinary research that can address grand challenges facing our society and innovate through a balance of fundamental and translational research. Collaboration with entities outside engineering and science is also highly encouraged.


Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with potential to develop an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary research program and to actively contribute to core graduate and undergraduate teaching missions of the Department. The Department currently has 29 tenure-track or tenured faculty members actively involved in research, teaching, and service endeavors. One third of the current faculty members have received the NSF CAREER grant. The Department is housed in a modern research and education facility and has an enrollment of approximately 800 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Clemson University is a public, land-grant institution currently ranked as 20th among national public universities by U.S. News and World Report and is classified as a Tier 1 Research Institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The campus is located between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC in the upstate of South Carolina.
