MS&E Undergraduate Student Sam Beckley Awarded MSA Scholarship

Sam Beckley was awarded a $2,000 Undergraduate Research Scholarship from the Microscopy Society of America (MSA). This highly-selective Scholarship is intended to foster the educational and research potential of full-time undergraduate students interested in pursuing microscopy research.

Beckley, a junior undergraduate in Materials Science and Engineering, is currently conducting research on solid-state batteries in Assistant Professor Kai He’s lab. Leveraging this scholarship, he will access Clemson’s Electron Microscopy Facility and use advanced transmission electron microscopy techniques to study the structure-property relationship of battery materials at the atomic level.

MS&E Grad Students Awarded Scholarships

Xiner Lu and Hongkui Zheng, PhD students in Materials Ccience and Engineering under Prof. Kai He, have both awarded Scholarships from the world-renowned John M. Cowley Center for High Resolution Electron Microscopy to attend the Winter School on High Resolution Electron Microscopy at Arizona State University on January 6-10, 2020.

The purpose of the Winter School is to introduce the theory and practice of high-resolution electron microscopy to scientists currently using transmission electron microscopes for materials science studies. Both students have been focusing on advanced transmission electron microscopy methods in their PhD studies and benefited from the lectures and hands-on sessions offered by the winter school.
