Clemson Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing

The Clemson Institute for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (CIAM2) is a partnership between Clemson University, other universities and nonprofit organizations, industry and government.

The Institute provides an integrated research and education environment. Built on a new paradigm coupling research and rapid, efficient development of new products and processes, CIAM2 supports industries and governmental agencies in retaining their global competitiveness.

Advanced materials and manufacturing are critical in creating economic wealth and growth. For example, in South Carolina approximately 25 percent of the work force in the state is involved in manufacturing products from materials, making this sector vital to the state's economic well-being.

The Institute was founded in 1999. The Institute's goal is to incorporate the broad areas of engineering and science to facilitate work in cross-disciplinary efforts, to provide hands-on research opportunities that seek industrial solutions and to enhance educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students through internships and industrial fellowships that promote opportunities for Clemson graduates in the industry.
