BMW Since announcing BMW's first plant outside of Germany in 1992, BMW Manufacturing has grown its employment to more than 5,000 people and produces the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle and the X6 Sports Activity Coupe for distribution to 120 markets worldwide. Through its significant investment in South Carolina, the 1,150-acre campus generates its own power on-site and offers fully equipped medical facilities, including an on-site pharmacy. Currently 2.5 million square feet, BMW will expand to 4 million-square-foot to produce the next generation BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle.

BMW As the original partner with Clemson University in this exciting project, BMW Manufacturing is proud of the solutions that are coming out of CU-ICAR. In 2003, BMW pledged $10 million to Clemson to endow professorships in the graduate automotive engineering program and under the Research Centers of Excellence Act, the state of South Carolina matched the pledge, generating $20 million for the school. In keeping with BMW's original vision, the research and development being carried out at CU-ICAR today is laying the foundation for tomorrow's next big discovery. The ITRC provides an important platform within the BMW Group for joint innovation projects with leading IT companies in the US. The 84,000-square-foot facility includes six secure research zones, IT operations center and research lab.
