Danielle Bowen Schuerer

Danielle Scheurer, MD, MSCR is an adult hospitalist physician and the Chief Quality Officer for MUSC. She oversees all quality and safety initiatives for MUSC's clinical enterprise. Dr. Danielle Scheurer earned her medical degree at the University of Tennessee. She completed a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Duke University, including a year as Chief Resident in Medicine. Dr. Scheurer initially joined the Division of General Internal Medicine faculty as an Instructor in 2003. She earned her Master's Degree in Clinical Research at MUSC and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2005. In 2010, after five years at the Brigham and Woman's Hospital, Dr. Scheurer returned to MUSC as an Assistant Professor in the Clinician Educator track. During the time she was at Brigham and Woman's Hospital she served as Medical Director of the General Internal Medicine inpatient service and was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. Since returning to MUSC, Dr. Scheurer has carried a heavy clinical load. She serves as a Hospitalist on the General Internal Medicine inpatient services, as well as Attending Physician on the General Medicine Consult Service, in the Perioperative Clinic and in the Transitional Care Unit. She also serves as Medical Director of Quality for MUHA and has been involved in a number of quality improvement projects related to inpatient care. Dr. Scheurer developed the course content for the Patient Safety Primer of the Intern 101 Curriculum. She serves on a number of Medical Center committees at MUSC and is a member of the American Hospital Association Advisory Panel on Healthcare-Acquired Infections. She is former SHM physician advisor, an SHM blogger, and member of SHM's Education Committee. She also serves as faculty of SHM's annual meeting "ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Learning Session" pre-course. She has served as physician editor of The Hospitalist since 2012.
