Miranda Muhs

Miranda Muhs earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Hastings College in Nebraska on a volleyball and academic scholarship. She is currently finishing her first year of earning her master’s in industrial engineering at Clemson University, where she works on the RIPCHD research team, under Dr. Taaffe, which studies work flow in the operating room and its impact on microbial load, using simulation. Before coming to Clemson, for two consecutive summers and continuing into the following school year, Miranda had an engineering internship with Wellhead Electric in Sacramento, CA, where she gained an understanding of the power and energy market and designed plant layouts to meet regulatory and structural requirements using AutoCAD and SketchUp. Among many other projects, Miranda also helped initiate the company’s first solar plant installation her first year, and in the second summer, after completed construction, helped with preparing the plant for operation.  In 2017, Miranda received the faculty-chosen Student Memorial Reward from the department of industrial engineering at Clemson, for overall excellence. She has continued to develop her skills in industrial engineering through coursework to match her passion and excitement for the field.
