News and Events

To further enhance the quality of research in both architectural design and healthcare, The Center for Health Facilties Design and Testing participates in a variety of conferences and lectures at a global level, which includes not only experiencing the event, but also sharing the work that's been happening here at Clemson.

Upcoming Events

January 25-26, 2018: Safe OR design workshop and OR prototype unveiling

Our multidisciplinary team of researchers at Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina is now in year 3 of the AHRQ funded RIPCHD.OR (Realizing Improved Patient Care through Human-Centered Design in the OR) project. As part of the project, we are constructing a high fidelity OR mock-up at the Clemson Design Center in Charleston. The high fidelity mock-up will be used to develop, test, refine, and implement innovative design ideas and strategies that improve OR safety and outcomes. We are also in the early stages of developing a Safe OR design tool that we envision will help both architect and clinician teams involved in designing new ORs.

We are organizing a full day workshop and mock-up unveiling reception for Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Clemson Design Center in Charleston. We plan to share year 2 project findings with attendees, brainstorm concepts for structure and development of an OR safe design tool, discuss development of high fidelity surgical scenarios, and we plan to hold an unveiling reception for the new high fidelity prototype that evening.
