Vision

To conduct research, produce scholarship, implement programs, and serve as an information resource on issues pertaining to the Black experience in education.

MissionCharles H. Houston Center

The mission of the Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education is to examine and address issues as well as disseminate information about the Black experience in education in the state of South Carolina and throughout the United States. The Charles H. Houston Center for the Study of the Black Experience in Education achieves its goals by conducting research and program evaluations, implementing educational programs, and pursuing collaborations and partnerships.

Priorities

•Conduct research pertaining to early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, educational leadership, teacher education, mathematics education, social studies education, special education, counselor education, science education, and postsecondary education.

•Pursue funding for research and programs.

•Enhance educational experiences and outcomes for students.

•Provide professional development opportunities for educators, administrators, and researchers.

•Examine diversity and community issues at Clemson University and other educational institutions in South Carolina and throughout the United States.

•Support the mission and goals of Clemson University, the College of Health, Education, and Human Development, and the Eugene T. Moore School of Education.

Strategic Goals

Strategic Goal 1:
Conduct empirical research that examines academic, social, economic, and historical issues that impact African Americans in South Carolina and throughout the United States.

Strategic Goal 2:
Pursue funding opportunities to conduct research and implement programs that are aligned with the vision and mission of the Center.

Strategic Goal 3:
Evaluate programs that are consistent with the mission and priorities of the Center.

Strategic Goal 4:
Support the recruitment of students at Clemson University and other educational institutions.

Strategic Goal 5:
Support the academic and social integration of students at Clemson University and other educational institutions.

Strategic Goal 6:
Support the recruitment, retention, and professional development of faculty at Clemson University and other educational institutions.

Strategic Goal 7:
Collaborate with schools, school districts, and postsecondary institutions.

Strategic Goal 8:
Collaborate with local organizations, regional organizations, national organizations, and international organizations, as well as government agencies, policymakers, and legislators.

Strategic Goal 9:
Examine diversity and community issues at Clemson University and other educational institutions.

Strategic Goal 10:
Disseminate information highlighting the Center’s research, programs, and activities.
