Recommendations for Research to Improve Reading Achievement for
African American Students

Six promising areas of research and related educational practice are highlighted to improve the reading achievement of African American students: (a) standardized testing, (b) teacher quality, (c) after-school programs, (d) parent involvement, (e) reading and study skills, and (f) computer games and simulations.
