About SCBioMat
We strive to find better treatments for human diseases by fostering interdisciplinary collaborations among researchers and enhancing interdependent intellectual capital and resources within the state of South Carolina.

The center comprehensively mentors target investigators toward independence as NIH-funded researchers in regenerative medicine and recruits outstanding junior and senior investigators in regenerative medicine.

Three main cores of the center focus on:

Materials Synthesis, Characterization, and Testing
Cell and Molecular Engineering
Histology and Imaging

Four current SCBioMat research projects dedicated to tissue regeneration research are:

Stem cell-myocyte electrical coupling via a laser patterned cell bridge
Biomaterials for guided neural regeneration
BMP-4 as a novel angiogenic factor and its potential use in tissue engineering
Endothelial response-guided design of hyaluronan-based vascular grafts
