Oconee County ranks 22nd in the state of South Carolina for the number of births to 15-19 year olds and 20th in the number of repeat pregnancies. In April 2014, the Joseph F. Sullivan Center at Clemson University was awarded funding to begin the program CU Succeed to promote academic success and support pregnant and parenting teens in Oconee County. Our organization, partnered with The Parenting Place, will join together with many other local service providers to encourage teens to stay in school, delay the next pregnancy, improve parenting skills and become better connected to supportive resouces.
The South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and The Children's Trust are two of the major statewide organizations supporting the efforts in South Carolina. Funding for this project comes through the Pregnancy Assistant Fund at the Office of Adolescent Health at the US Department of Health and Human ServIces. To read the press release, click here.
