Historically, sports research has focused on the physical and mental abilities of athletes. But researchers at Clemson University have broken from tradition and begun to examine the sports industry from a much broader perspective. Six years ago, with the help of alumnus Robert H. Brooks, Clemson initiated the Brooks Institute for Sports Science -- the only one of its kind in the nation. Since then, researchers at the Brooks Institute have discovered many ways to improve the sports industry. Their technological advances have helped to reshape motorsports, influence the path of a golfball and treat ailments in race horses. They're finding ways for sports industries to become more competitive and profitable. Their communication studies are helping sports professionals relate better to each other, the athletes, the coaches and the fans. |
