Donald Clayton explaining the universal background of gamma rays from radioactive 56Co produced during the history of supernovae in the universe. In Clayton's Rice University office in the Space Science Laboratory, in October 1969 on the occasion of the publication of the paper with Joe Silk (ApJ 158, L43 (1969)). Clayton and Silk met at Hoyle's Cambridge UK Institute during summer 1969, and this paper grew From Silk's questioning following Clayton's IOTA Seminar there on prospects for detecting the 847 keV line from 56Co in young supernova remnants (ApJ , 155, 75 (1969)). These prospects became important for later justifications of funds for NASA's Gamma Ray Observatory.
