Donald Clayton in 1975, at age forty. In this epochal year for him, he had just constructed a theory that isotopically anomalous dust would surely condense within expanding and coling supernovae, and that their isotopic effects might be found in meteorites. He called the theory "Cosmic Chemical Memory". At this age Clayton was named Andrew Hays Professor of Astrophysics at Rice University.
