Clemson University Wordmark

Stan Woosley, Mike Howard and Donald Clayton in Mike Howard’s Livermore home on October 30, 1981 . As Clayton’s Ph. D. students at Rice University, both authored distinguished studies of explosive nucleosynthesis in supernova shocked shells and in Cambridge UK were annual fixtures within the “Rice mafia”. Woosley launched a famous career with his Ph. D. thesis study (ApJ 1973) with Clayton and Arnett of explosive oxygen burning and its merging into explosive silicon burning and, at higher entropy, the alpha-rich freezeout.
