James Truran and Donald Clayton at Kings College sherry party during the Conference THE NEUTRON AND ITS APPLICATIONS, which was held in Cambridge to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Chadwick's discovery of the neutron there. Truran and Clayton played key roles in the theory of explosive silicon burning during 1966-67, when the original e process creating 56Fe was replaced by explosive ejection of radioactive 56Ni. Their close collaboration in developing complementary approaches to this key nucleosynthesis question has been described in historical detail in the paper "Radiogenic Iron" (Clayton 1999, Meteoritics and Planetary Science 34, A145-A160; see esp. pp. A152-53)
