Donald Clayton in January 1988 explaining the emergence of 847 keV gamma rays from 56Co decay in supernova 1987A. His News and Views account one month earlier in Nature 330, 423 (1987) predicted that the gamma ray lines were about to emerge on the basis of first detection of the Compton-scattered gammas. Clayton had predicted the 847-keV line in 1969 (with Colgate and Fishman; ApJ 155, 75 (1969)).
