SMU President Kenneth Pye and Clayton. Occasion in March 1993 was banquet and ceremony at SMU in which Clayton was named Distinguished Alumnus of Southern Methodist University. Clayton attended SMU between Jan. 1953 and his graduation with highest honors and Phi Beta Kappa in June 1956. He majored in Physics and mathematics. He then entered Caltech in September 1956.
