Donald Clayton beside the poster in honor of the life and work of W. A. Fowler outside the auditorium at Caltech where the SYMPOSIUM ON NUCLEAR ASTROPHYSICS-A CELEBRATION OF WILLY FOWLER took place. Dec. 16, 1995, 34 years after Clayton completed the first PhD thesis in purely nuclear astrophysics at Caltech under Fowler's supervision. Clayton's invited talk at this symposium was "NUCLEAR GAMMA-RAY-LINE ASTRONOMY: EXPERIMENTS, OBSERVATIONS AND THEORY".
