UAV LABORATORYOne of our helicopters was lost in the woods near our flying field. Below are pictures from the recovery of the aircraft. A ground search proved futile so we had to search from the air. Here Tim is ready to board the Clemson Flying Club plane to start the aerial search. Thanks to Harrison Smith, a full-time flight instructor with the Club, for his help. We were able to find the tree where the helicopter landed from the air. Of course it had to be at the top of the tallest tree in the forest (130 feet estimated). The arrow marks the location of the helicopter at the top of the tree. Dan ascending the tree to retrieve the helicopter - it was incredible to witness this in person. Thanks to Dan from Dan's Tree Service in Clemson for making this climb. Dan descending the tree with the helicopter attached to his belt. Part of the search and rescue team with the helicopter. After four days of searching we were happy to get the helicopter back with only a bent tail boom.
