Welcome to the Clemson University Technology-guided Therapy for Endoscopic and Robotic Surgery (CUTTERS) Lab!

The Clemson University Technology-guided Therapy for Endoscopic and Robotic Surgery (CUTTERS) lab focuses on the use of computational and image based technologies for the improvement of healthcare.  Our primary research objective is to improve clinical care; reducing risk to patients, shortening procedure times, and enhancing information available to clinicians for diagnosis and treatment.

The central application developed within our lab is our novel image-guidance platform the Kit for Navigation through Image Focused Exploration (KNIFE).  KNIFE is an extensible framework for image-guided procedures, allowing for new clinical applications to be added by any end user.  KNIFE uses the DICOM standard for images, and has been demonstrated with plane-film X-ray, fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound, as well as video data from a laparoscopic camera.
