Margaret L. Thompson, J.D., has taught law-related courses at Clemson University for many years. Environmental Science, Law, and Policy has remained her top priority since discovering Joe Sax's environmental law courses at The University of Michigan Law School in the 1980s, followed by four very productive years in practice as a staff attorney with U.S. EPA, Region II (New York City) Office, in the Waste and Toxic Substances division of the Office of Regional Counsel.
Disenchantment with large-law-firm practice, also in Manhattan in the 1980s, gave rise to an interest in business law and white collar crime and led to an appointment as a Lecturer for a number of years in Clemson's business school.
Margaret has been a Lecturer in Clemson's Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences since 1999. Her undergraduate course, EN SP 400, is patterned after the interdisciplinary curriculum at The University of Michigan and is offered to students majoring in a variety of subjects across the curriculum. She mentors undergraduates going into graduate studies, law school, and government and private-sector jobs.
Since 1993, Margaret has served as a member of the SC DHEC “SUPERB” Advisory Committee.
