Welcome

Our community of practice brings together graduate students and faculty from bioengineering, chemistry, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering and science, materials science and engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, and physics to engage in cutting-edge research in epistemologies, diversity and inclusiveness, policy, and learning mechanisms and systems. Our community includes undergraduate researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and visiting researchers in our academic endeavors.

Engineering and Science Education Ph.D. Program

The Clemson University ESED Ph.D. Program provides a rich curriculum with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. Applicants should at least have a master's degree in a STEM discipline.

The deadline for applications for the Ph.D. program for full consideration for admission and funding is December 1 of each year. There will be a second round of consideration for any remaining places in the incoming fall cohort starting February 1.

Certificate Program

Our Certificate Program in Engineering and Science Education is open to all Clemson graduate students and those external to Clemson interested in gaining formal experience in education research and professional development.

Clemson students are not charged additional tuition, only a small registration fee. Those external to Clemson should contact our department for more information regarding cost.

More information is available in the Certificate Handbook.

Bridge to Doctorate CUBD

The National Science Foundation's Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program has awarded $1 million to establish the inaugural Clemson University Bridge to Doctorate Graduate Fellowship Program (CUBD). Through this funding, along with additional resources provided by the University, full financial support will be provided to a cohort of 12 incoming underrepresented Ph.D. students enrolled in select programs in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS) or the College of Science.

The CUBD cohort will be comprised of diverse scientific leaders with expertise in advanced materials research. This effort will drive fundamental advances in inorganic and organic materials to inform and define future research directions for developing advanced materials and systems across a spectrum of applications.

STEMFACDEV

The STEM Faculty Development Collaboratory (SFDC) at Clemson University was established in 2017 to provide transformative research and service in the holistic areas of teaching, research, service, and leadership. It is critical to provide STEM faculty with professional development to support their complex roles and to base the development on evidence derived from focused research. Much focus has been on STEM faculty development in support of teaching and student-centered learning, but a survey of the literature found less attention on the other aspects of the professoriate in the 21st century.
