Welcome from the Department Chair

On behalf of the students, staff and faculty, I welcome you to the Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) at Clemson University. From our humble beginnings in 1983 we have evolved into a highly productive department with strong national and international reputation. Our faculty is well known for its cutting-edge research in the information technology driven emphasis areas of production and service systems, human factors and education and learning systems. However, we continue to strive for greater excellence in industrial engineering education, research and service. Being the only IE program in the State of South Carolina we provide a significant pool of IE’s for the state and the nation as a whole.

The IE program offers accredited programs leading to Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.), Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), degrees in industrial engineering. Because of the broad nature of our discipline our graduates are widely sought by a multitude of industries ranging from manufacturing (e.g., automotive, electronics, chemical) to service (information technology, aviation, financial, consulting). One of the defining characteristics in the success of our graduates is the dedication of our staff and faculty. By working closely with our external constituents, the faculty has developed an innovative industrial engineering curriculum that reflects the state of the art in industrial engineering education and the needs of the profession. A defining attribute of our program is the ability of our faculty to develop student strengths in basic industrial engineering knowledge, use of industrial engineering tools, problem solving, computer skills, communication and teamwork thereby preparing them for careers in industrial engineering. We are extremely proud of our alumni, current students and the status of our department. Alumni are strongly encouraged to visit the Alumni Corner to review postings of other alumni and place notes there about themselves.
