PhD Student Wins Paper Award

Apichai Ritvirool, a doctoral student in industrial engineering at Clemson, won the Student Paper Competition at the SouthEast inFORMS Annual Conference. inFORMS, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, is the leading international organization promoting research and use of operations research. The SouthEast Chapter meets annually in Myrtle Beach, SC. Apichai's paper, "A Supply Chain Model for a Single-Vendor Single-Buyer System", considers a purchase system in which a single vendor supplies a product to a single buyer.

Apichai's home is in Phrae, Thailand. He earned his B. Eng. at Chaing Mai University before coming to Clemson. He completed the MSIE here at Clemson and decided to pursue doctoral work. His research is nearing completion, and he hopes to graduate in May 2003. Following graduation, Apichai will return to a faculty position at Naresuan University in Phitsanulok, Thailand.
