IE Student Hiren Rathod wins awards at Safety Conference
- September 26, 2009
The ASSE-Region VI Safety conference was held at Myrtle Beach between 23-25 September 2009.
Following are the awards won by Hiren Rathod:
1) ASSE-Region VI Professional Development Conference Student Research
Third Place - Poster Presentation Graduate Student
2) ASSE-Region VI Professional Development Conference Student Research
Fourth Place Overall.
He won the awards for poster titled, "Modeling Accident and Incident Severity for the Construction Industry."
Here is the Brief Abstract of the Poster:
"In many industries, EHS professionals must target their safety improvement efforts by considering the overall risk (e.g. probability and
impact of event) posed by possible hazards. While the probability of occurrence can be estimated using historical data, predicting incident
severity is still highly subjective and is quite dependent upon a number of factors. The research discussed in this presentation investigates those
factors which might influence incident severity. Interim finding for the development of a model for predicting incident severity is generated using
data from past construction incident reports with hopes that it might help EHS professionals better estimate incident severity."
The poster was completed under the guidance of Dr. Paris Stringfellow.
