Dr. Mayorga receives prestigious NSF CAREER Award

Dr. Mayorga

Dr. Mayorga Joined Clemson’s Industrial Engineering Department in 2006 after receiving her Phd in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley.  Her research interests include modeling and analysis of service systems with an emphasis on healthcare and predictive models of health outcomes.  Dr. Mayorga has published over 17 journal articles and over two dozen conference proceedings; her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and BMW Manufacturing Co., among others.  She currently serves of the Board of the Operations Research Subdivision of the institute of Industrial Engineers, as treasurer of the Minority Issues Forum of INFORMS and as Area Editor for the journal Health Systems.  The recently granted CAREER Award, entitled “Incorporating Patient Heterogeneity and Choice into Predictive Models of Health and Economic Outcomes” investigates how to obtain better predictions of the effectiveness of population-level health interventions by developing patient choice models that will be embedded into predictive models of health outcomes.  The educational plan includes advising and mentoring activities that work with discovery-oriented "creative inquiry" projects involving multi-level student teams.  For more details please see the full abstract at: http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward.do?AwardNumber=1150732
