Admission Requirements
Minimum requirements to be considered for admission to graduate study in IE generally follow those posted in the Graduate School Announcements at www.registrar.clemson.edu/html/catalogGrad.htm. Minimum requirements include at least a four-year bachelor's degree from an institution whose scholastic rating is satisfactory to the University, a high quality of previous academic record, and satisfactory scores on the general portion of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for international students.
Students who are judged to have the background and motivation to be successful in the program are accepted and this is affirmed by the Graduate School. Based on historical data, students admitted to IE typically have:
- An undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 or equivalent. (Ph.D. applicants who have already obtained a Master's degree typically have a GPA above 3.5 in their graduate courses.)
- GRE scores that exceed 500 on verbal and 700 on quantitative.
- TOEFL scores that exceed 100 (iBT) or 560 (PBT) for international students.
If the student's performance on these measures is not consistent with the guidelines, it is important that the reference letters and the statement of purpose provide the Committee with additional insights on why these inconsistencies exist or what actions have been taken or are going to be taken to mitigate any impact they have on performance in graduate school at Clemson.
Admission to graduate studies in IE begins with submission of an official application to the Clemson University Graduate School via their website at www.grad.clemson.edu/Admission.php. In addition to test scores, the applicant must submit official transcripts, letters of reference, and a personal statement as part of the application.
Upon receipt of all admission materials, the Graduate Committee in IE will evaluate the application regarding admission. Completed applications received before December 15 will receive full consideration. Applications received after that date will be evaluated on rolling basis. The IE Department reviews applications for fall enrollment only.
