IIE Student Conference 2009


Clemson University will be hosting the next IIE Mid Atlantic Regional Conference on February 5-8, 2009. The conference brings together 200-250 outgoing students to further their learning through plant tours, professional speakers, hands-on activities, and friendly competitions. The participating schools include Clemson University, East Carolina University, Morgan State University, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina State University, South Carolina State University, Tennessee Tech University, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Virginia Tech University, and West Virginia University. This year, Clemson University has been granted the privilege to host the conference, and we want to make this a conference to remember…

Industrial Engineering (IE) is a flexible field that provides paths into a variety of industries. IE will be a prominent field in the future and is necessary for firms to survive in the competitive global market. We will focus on how IE supports a sustainable environment, to ensure that our future remains bright. This theme will be reinforced all weekend through our activities and speakers. We are extremely excited about hosting this conference!

This conference will provide opportunities to students by:

• Furthering their education through hands-on experiences
• Listening to how top executives use industrial engineering in the workplace
• Utilizing creativity and knowledge to compete in IE-based activities
• Meeting peers from around the region &
• Networking with industry representatives and gaining a glimpse of & the real world&

The conference will benefit local industry by:
• Connecting top IE undergraduates from several programs with all companies involved in the conference
• Offering several plant tours at participating companies
• Publicizing the diversity of economic growth in Upstate SC
• Providing opportunities for representatives to participate in or lead break-out sessions
• Preparing undergraduates for the workforce through hands-on experiences with learning and interaction
• Recruiting of motivated students through a career fair The conference will benefit Clemson University and the IE Department by:
• Showcasing our university as a leader in research and education
• Demonstrate the university focus on sustainable environment

We are all very excited about this unique opportunity, and the 2009 IIE Regional Conference will be a stage for Clemson to make a huge impact on our IE neighbors!
