Clemson University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Department seeks exceptional candidates with a strong background in scholarship, a proven track-record in obtaining federal, state, and industry funding, a commitment to mentoring junior faculty, demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and leadership experience.
Guaranteed consideration will be given to applications received by December 16, 2011; however, the search will continue until the position is filled.

Additional information:
- The Department has 24 tenured/tenure-track faculty members all actively involved in teaching, research, and service. Since 2001 eight assistant professors in the Department have been awarded the NSF CAREER Award. In addition, prior to 2001 one faculty member was awarded a PFF while another was a PECASE award recipient.
- The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Currently there are 634 undergraduates in the sophomore through senior ranks, 89 M.S. students and 63 Ph.D. students. The Department is the largest degree-granting program at Clemson.
- Significant growth in the number of departmental faculty members is anticipated in the next few years, following the recent spin off of Clemson’s new Department of Automotive Engineering, located at the International Center for Automotive Research (ICAR) in Greenville, SC.
- The Department is home to five endowed chairs and professorships.
- The Department is part of the College of Engineering and Science (mathematical and physical sciences), which facilitates teaching and research collaborations.
- The Department has a modern 105,000 ft2 facility on the main campus with excellent laboratory space.
- Clemson is a public, land-grant institution located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the thriving I-85 business corridor between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC.
- Clemson University is ranked by US News and World Report as 25th among public institutions and in the top up-and-coming universities.
