Hours: 15 - 20 hours\week

Job Description:
Coordinate research activities and accomplish design tasks in a timely manner per the goals of the Intelligent River Project that is placing water quality and quantity sensors throughout the Savannah River system. Student should enjoy handson activities and working with computers to build and verify operation of data acquisition devices. Some limited travel may be required to help deploy buoys, terrestrial boxes, and other such equipment, particularly during initial test deployments. We are looking for someone who can start working in May, 2013.

Responsibilities

  • coordinate design of parts with machine shop
  • keep log of daily or weekly activities
  • find parts needed to accomplish design tasks
  • organize deployment times for buoy, terrestrial enclosures, etc.
  • assemble buoys and other devices
  • solder wires to connectors and electronic boards
  • mix foam for buoy floatation
  • travel (if needed) to help deploy equipment

Preferred Skills

  • proficient in SolidWorks part design, assemblies, and drawings
  • data acquisition experience
  • sensor calibration (or willing to learn)
  • basic knowledge of electrical circuits and soldering
  • knowledge of machining processes
  • must enjoy hands-on work and outside activities
  • ability to swim and drive (Licensed SC Driver)
  • self motivated and a passion for learning
