The Nano- and Functional Imaging Laboratory (NFIL) in the Department of Bioengineering, Clemson University is one of the primary research labs in Clemson-MUSC Bioengineering Program. Founded in 2013, the NFIL is dedicated to seeking imaging solutions for biomedical research, where spatial resolution, imaging speed and live cell and tissue imaging capabilities are critical. The research is built on the basis of optics, laser spectroscopy, and physiology and interweaved with engineering, biophysics, and cell biology. The current research focuses are assessing the structure and function of articular cartilage with nonlinear microscopy and elucidating the dynamic, three-dimensional interaction between cells and the extracellular matrix with superresolution microscopy. NFIL also develops imaging devices for clinical applications.
