Our PEER mentor groups were created to help freshmen and transfer students learn about Clemson University. All new PEER students are assigned in groups to a first-year PEER mentor. Your mentor will be a junior, senior or graduate minority student in the College of Engineering and Science and will meet often with your PEER group. He or she will answer questions about life at Clemson, organize study groups and social activities, and make sure you're informed about everything the University has to offer.
Your PEER group will meet within a week of the time you arrive on campus, so you’ll have a circle of friends from the start at Clemson. You and your mentor will spend time together. You may decide to share a meal in the dining hall, work together on a hobby, take aerobics or explore other common interests. However you choose to spend time, your mentor will be there for you -- to listen, to give you the benefit of his or her experience and to be supportive as you adjust to your new life as a Clemson college student.
PEER students are always welcome in our office at 144 Freeman Hall. Come in and use the lounge area to relax or study between classes. We have a test bank (see more below), computers and a printer for student use, and various magazines you can read in the lounge or take back to your dorm with you.

Paid undergraduate research programs can be found at universities and government laboratories all over the country, and even abroad. Many include not only salary but also travel and housing reimbursement. Eligible PEER students can also apply for additional subsistence funding provided through LS-SCAMP. Email slasser@clemson.edu for more information.
Most of these opportunities place students with professors who are conducting ongoing research. In addition to earning money, students get valuable professional experience and a feel for life as a graduate student and professor.
Look for frequent PEER Office emails advertising summer research opportunities, or use an internet search engine to discover the many different programs available.
Undergraduate research at Clemson during the regular academic year is also an option – for some majors, it’s a requirement!
