Math Excellence Workshop brochure
Sponsored by the Louis Stokes - South Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-SCAMP), by Duke Energy, and by the College of Engineering and Science, the Math Excellence Workshop (MEW) has received national recognition for promoting superior mathematical understanding.
Who is eligible?
All incoming Clemson University minority students majoring in either computer science, engineering, the life sciences, the physical sciences or mathematics, are eligible to attend MEW. Students must also score a three or higher on the Clemson Math Placement Test: https://mthsc.clemson.edu/CMPT/ . Based on their CMPT score, MEW participants take either the calculus or pre-calculus class (MTHSC 106 or 104) during the second session of summer school at Clemson. These are the regular, credit –bearing math classes.
MEW is an intense experience, and the students who choose to take the MEW challenge average much higher grades than other students in their math classes. Even better, they find they're prepared with the knowledge and study skills they need to master the technical classes ahead in their majors.
Costs
Tuition, books, meals and supplies will be provided for you free. Participants are responsible only for the cost of housing, insurance, and Fike recreation fee, a total cost for Summer 2012 of $734.75.
