Research with
Impact

College of Engineering and Science (CoES) students have an incredible opportunity to do research as part of their studies at Clemson University. Research is fundamentally important in the CoES, and because of that, externally funded research provides graduate education support and allows faculty to stay at the cutting edge of science and technology. The level of research activity in the college continues to grow at a phenomenal rate.

Most of the research in the college is funded through faculty working in various departments. However, the increased emphasis in interdisciplinary research has lead faculty to form research groups focusing on an area of interdisciplinary research. As a result, there are a number of established interdisciplinary research programs in CoES.

Several times, the faculty have worked together to gain formal recognition as a research center or institute from Clemson University and the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. In other cases, the groups have been formalized at the college or University level as a research association, alliance or laboratory. All of these programs have strong links to external organizations and have been very effective in attracting external support for research.
