Residents in Science and Engineering (RISE) Program

FAQs

Q: What do I do with my Housing application?
A:
If you are interested in this program, select the RISE (Residents in Science & Engineering) Living-Learning Community on the Housing application as your top choice. This will communicate to the Housing Department that you wish to participate in this program.

Q: What if I’m not selected to participate in THE RISE Program?                                                                                                                                                                              A: If you are not selected, the Housing Department will default to your second choice for your residence hall assignment.

Q: What are the selection criteria?
A:
Students are selected from the pool of returned Housing applications with RISE indicated as the first choice.

Q: When will selections be made?
A:
Selections are made in early summer. All applicants are notified by e-mail once selections are made.

Q: Is there a waiting list for this program?
A:
Yes. After the initial selections are made, the remaining students will be placed on a waiting list. Students will be selected off the waiting list if any accepted students decline the acceptance.

Q: Why doesn't everyone get in who applies?
A:
Sanders and Geer are relatively small residence halls with a limited number of spaces available, and we are unfortunately not able to accommodate everyone who is interested in participating in the program.

Q: Why is there a program fee?
A:
This program provides a strong sense of community and academic support that helps students reach their goals. To support and encourage these goals, a program fee of $150 is required. This fee goes toward the utilization of Peer Advisors, Tutors, and other valuable programming efforts.
