Stéphanie Cretté, Ph. D.
Research Scientist
Stéphanie Cretté received her DEA (Master equivalent) in “Inorganics, Polymers and Catalysis” in 1995 from the University of Montpellier II, France. During her master, she investigated the synthesis of polyhydroxybutyrate, PHA, by chemical route. She completed her graduate work on the synthesis of porous and non-porous polymer systems for catalysis and separation in liquid and supercritical carbon dioxide, under the guidance of Professor Joseph DeSimone. In 2001, she received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Prior to joining the Clemson University, Stéphanie worked 7 years for MeadWestvaco Corporation in Charleston, SC. As a Research Chemist for MeadWestvaco Specialty Chemicals division, she applied her knowledge of organic/inorganic chemistry and polymer science to projects ranging from industrial and architectural coatings to paper and packaging applications.
As a new member of the Clemson Conservation Center Research team, she will implement characterization of corrosion products and artifacts using analytical techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray microanalysis techniques, micro-Raman and micro-FTIR spectroscopy. Moreover, she will concentrate on supercritical drying processes of artifacts, corrosion studies and conservation processes.
