Nestor Gonzalez-Pereyra

Nestor G. Gonzalez-Pereyra
Research & Conservator

Mr. Gonzalez-Pereyra received a BS in Chemistry in 1996 and graduated from the Universidad de la Republica in Uruguay in 2002 in Chemical Engineering. While studying, he worked with the underwater archaeological team at the Uruguayan National Heritage Office (Comision del Patrimonio Cultural de la Nacion).

In 2002, Mr. Gonzalez-Pereyra joined the Hunley Project researching new technologies for the conservation of maritime archaeological artifacts. In 2003, he began testing and developing the application of subcritical fluids in the conservation field.

His research interests include sub and super critical fluids, corrosion processes, non-destructive testing, and conservation of metals as well as non-metallic artifacts recovered from marine environments. He is also a member of the International Counsel on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

Mr. Gonzalez-Pereyra is currently a lecturer at the School of Material Science and Engineering at Clemson University.
