Benjamin Rennison
Archaeologist

Benjamin Rennison is the newest recruit to the archaeological team. Originally he joined the Clemson Conservation Center group as an intern after completing an MA in Maritime Archaeology at the University of Bristol in England. His experience is in various aspects of archaeological work, including 3D modeling, site plan development, topographical scanning, and illustration. He now works with the other members of the archaeology team to continue the advancement of discoveries on the project. Rennison’s experience with modeling software is used to build models of the skeletal remains of the Hunley crew for insertion into the interactive site plan.

Currently Benjamin is working with his colleague Michael Scafuri in the white light scanning of the exterior of the H.L Hunley submarine. His research interests include three dimensional photogrammetry, topographic scanning and photographic texture mapping. He is currently managing a collaborative project with the Smithsonian Institute, University College London and the Vasa Project examining three dimensional scanning techniques using a piece of concretion from a cannon found at the CSS Alabama wreck site. Benjamin’s other research interests include innovation in boat design and refugee boat design.
