Chemical engineering graduate Karrie-Jo Shell of Decatur, Ga., is the national energy expert for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Water.

The first African American female to graduate from Clemson in chemical engineering, she also has a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Shell is a registered professional engineer and is married to electrical engineering graduate W. Bernard Shell ’81, a manager for AT&T.
